This week, the EVOLVEPACK project held its official kick-off meeting at the Institute of Agrochemistry and Food Technology (IATA-CSIC) in Valencia. The meeting brought together leading experts from across the Mediterranean region to initiate research and development of cutting-edge biodegradable and compostable active packaging solutions.
Coordinated by CSIC, EVOLVEPACK aims to design innovative packaging materials that not only extend food shelf life but also reduce waste and enhance food safety. By utilizing underexploited agro-industrial and marine residues, the project will contribute to more sustainable practices in the food supply chain across the Mediterranean.
This project, funded by the European Union, brings together 9 partners from 7 Mediterranean countries, each contributing their expertise in various fields, including material science, biotechnology, and environmental sustainability. The research will focus on creating flexible films, trays, and absorbing pads with active antimicrobial properties.
We are excited to embark on this journey to revolutionize food packaging and reduce food waste. Follow our progress on Twitter (@iata_csic) and LinkedIn for the latest updates.
